Images of what purports to be the face plate for the next iPhone model have leaked online detailing an unsuspected change to the design.

Apple-focussed blog Apple.pro published the photos and claim that the new fascia will form part of the upcoming device, rumoured to be called the iPhone 5.

If genuine, the pictured parts suggest that rumours about Apple’s next device having a larger, 4-inch screen are true, but there is another interesting facet to the images in the form a small whole for the front-facing camera.

This has been moved from the position it occupied on previous iterations to a new location which places it above the ear speaker. Although speculation has been rife over what form the new device will take, this is the first time such an alteration has been mooted.

Reasons for the change in design could be many and varied, although it’s highly likely that he move is possibly an ergonomic change which will make video-calling easier.

Meanwhile, Japanese tech blog Macotakara reports that the new iPhone has entered production, without naming any particular source for the information.

However, tech news site BGR has noted that Macotakara previously claimed the recent iPad had entered production in January, which suggests that if Apple sticks to a similar manufacturing schedule the iPhone 5 could launch in September.
