iPad, iPhone Dominate Thanksgiving and Black Friday Traffic
According to the latest numbers released by Gartner for the third quarter of 2012, Android is leading the OS competition with more than 70%, followed by a distant Apple iOS and its close to 14%. Despite these figures Apple has managed to be the undisputed leader of Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping, according to an IBM research.
Overall, online sales grew year-on-year 17.4% on Thanksgiving Day and 20.7% on Black Friday; out of all these, mobile consumers accounted for 16.3%. Apple has managed to top the charts with the iPad and the iPhone, as follows: the iPad accounted for 9.8% traffic of all online sales, representing a solid 88.3% of all tablet devices (followed by the Nook and its 3.1% and the Kindle’s 2.4%; the generic “Samsung Galaxy” accounted for 1.8%). The iPhone followed closely with 8.7% traffic of all online sales while generic “Android” came in third with 5.5%.
While the figures for the iPad are somewhat understandable, as the Apple tablet is still the market leader, the numbers are interesting when it comes to the iPhone. There’s no doubt that the iPhone is breaking sales records year after year but it does not manage to outsell the entire crop of Android devices. However, web traffic generated by the Apple smartphone is smashing Android.
