Those into iPhone photography might have a great future ahead of them, as Apple has filed for a patent that covers swappable lenses on future iPhone cameras. Currently, there are “lenses” and adapters for the iPhone 4S and the rest of the lineup, but they are usually large and clunky, and the photos never come out that well. But according to Apple’s patent, this cold be a thing of the past. The company’s latest patent application covers a lens system that can be swapped out like DSLRs and mirror-less cameras. The patent also covers a system where there are two lenses included on the iPhone’s backpanel, and the user simply has to turn it in order to get anew lens on the camera.

It’s still uncertain whether this will ever become a reality, considering that Apple’s aren’t fans of adding user-replaceable stuff on their phones and devices. Nevertheless, it looks like iPhone photography has a bit better future ahead. Not to mention the general improvements in cameras and optics that are expected to be in the newest iPhone 5, when it ships this Fall.
