A white Nexus 4 is something the market has been waiting for since day-one. The pale phone is back in the rumors recently and, whether it will disappoint or not, it is expected to land soon with a point-update of Android.

According to a recent report the white Nexus 4 you see above and below is allegedly the official press render of the device. There’s really nothing special about it except for the fact that it is, well, white. Apparently the phone’s model number is E960W and according to the report, specs will be the same as in the case of the black variant (including 8-, and 16GB flavors, no 32GB option). The report also mentions that the source of these leaked renders talks about Android 4.2 on-board so, whenever it launches (June 10 is rumored), it might or might not bring Android 4.3

A new image from Microsoft’s Major Nelson shows the box art for Forza Motorsport 5, one of the few announced Xbox One launch titles.

The image shows the box art of Forza Motorsport 5, which is surprisingly simple compared to the box art of many current generation video games. The box art simply shows a sports car turning a corner on a racetrack with a castle in the background and the logo of the game floating in the sky above it.

Read: Xbox One: 5 Exciting New Features

The box ast also shows that Xbox One game boxes will look very similar to Xbox 360 game boxes. Microsoft will keep green as a major color for the console, even though it doesn’t use green on the console itself or on the Xbox button on the controller. The plastic case will stay green, and the banner on top of the box art is green as well.

Another Motorola X-Phone variant, model XT1060 has pass through the FCC recently. The model XT1060 version sports CDMA frequencies, LTE Band 4, Band 13 and GSM capabilities. We know that the XT1060 is the Verizon Wireless variant because radio frequencies 850 MHz and 1900 MHz just happen to be used by Verizon Wireless for CDMA capabilities, LTE Band 13 is be used by Verizon, and they have future plans for Band 4. Like most current Verizon smartphones, you’ll be able to take the X-Phone overseas or use it here in the US on GSM networks due to ‘Global’ support. Sadly, FCC filings don’t reveal all too much when it comes to internal hardware specifications leaving much to the unknown.

While we don’t know a lot about the X-Phone as we’ve seen some conflicting reports. It is rumored to be a mid-range phone affordable to the masses. Whether that’s true or not is yet to be seen. What we do know is that the X-Phone is said to run stock Android, a byproduct Google’s Motorola acquisition and we’ve even seen that leak multiple times over and over again like the image above from Tinhte.vn.

Besides Verizon, we’ve seen Sprint and AT&T variants pass through the FCC. This would be new territory for Motorola, launching a major device across multiple carriers. When do we think we’ll see the X-Phone? I was told sometime next month by an anonymous source. Who knows?

Samsung integrated its Bada OS into the Tizen project a while ago, but we are yet see a smartphone running on the open source project. However, traces of a Samsung device running on Tizen was confirmed by a UAProf earlier and now, the images of the smartphone with Tizen 2.1 have surfaced online.

Images of Samsung Redwood with Tizen 2.1

The upcoming Tizen smartphone from Samsung has been codenamed “Redwood” and bears the GT-I8800 model name.

The design of the device looks quite similar to the company’s own Galaxy smartphones. Samsung has obviously baked a few of its proprietary Android features into the Tizen OS such as S-Voice, Wi-Fi Direct and S-Beam.

The only thing we know about the Samsung I8800 Redwood is that it comes with a 720p display and runs the Tizen 2.1 OS.

The smartphone will be given away to some 500 developers, participating in the on-going Tizen Developer Conference for cross platform customizations.

So far we don’t know whether that’s actually a device that will be commercially available. It is possible that it only remains a developer’s platform.

An iPhone app called uCheck that lets people check the levels of blood, protein, glucose and other substances in their urine has drawn scrutiny from the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration for not acquiring the required clearance before launching the app.

The urinalysis app uses standard urine test strips from Siemens and Bayer, but instead of requiring manual inspection, the app itself examines the stick using the iPhone’s camera, and generates automated results. For this it needs a $ 40 uCheck kit, available from the company’s website.

From Bloomberg:

Biosense Technologies Private Ltd.’s uChek system isn’t cleared by the Food and Drug Administration and the agency said it wants to know why not, in a first-of-its-kind letter to a maker of a mobile-device application.

[...]

The agency has said it wants stricter rules for apps that directly diagnose or treat conditions, proposing in 2011 to apply similar quality standards as for heart stents, ultrasound machines and other medical devices.

BioSense, the company behind uCheck has said that it intends to “work very closely with the U.S. FDA over the coming months to ensure that we continue to deliver accurate, affordable and convenient diagnostics across the world.”

The uCheck app is live on the App Store, and it remains to be seen if the developers will voluntarily pull the app until they get an approval or will Apple yank it from their end.

You’ll be forgiven for forgetting about the Samsung Galaxy Young, an entry-level handset that the company showed off at MWC 2013, but it’ll finally be arriving on UK shores this weekend. Designed for “style seekers”, the Galaxy Young is probably one of the most basic smartphones you can buy. Don’t expect anything remotely decent in the way of specs, then.

The handset includes a 3.27-inch display with a 480×320 resolution, along with a single-core 1Ghz processor, 768MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot supports additional storage up to 64GB, and 3-megapixel camera serves as the phone’s primary – and only – shooter.

It’s not exactly a skinny device either. Samsung says the Galaxy Young comes in at around 12.5mm thick, but at least it’s light at 112 grams. Android Jelly Bean 4.1 runs the show, as does Samsung’s TouchWiz modifications, and Bluetooth 3.0/Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n are also onboard. Everything is powered by a 1,300mAh battery.

Samsung didn’t give pricing information for the handset, but O2 are currently offering the phone for the dirt cheap price of £89.99. The South Korean manufacturer also says that the Carphone Warehouse will be stocking the device in case you want it from another network or simply prefer it SIM free. If you still need some more info to make a decision, then check out our hands-on impressions from MWC 2013.

Pocketnow Insider is not only about video. It is a collection of posts from where you can get to virtually go behind the scenes of Pocketnow and the people behind it. This new recurring text series will give you the opportunity to find out more about our Editors, their lives, before and outside of Pocketnow.

Our first installment of “Get to know Pocketnow’s Editors” features our Managing Editor, Anton D. Nagy. You’ll find out about his background, interests, activities, as well as a little bit about his duties here on Pocketnow. We hope you’ll enjoy this new series and learn about the people who keep Pocketnow running!

___

I’m Anton D. Nagy, Managing Editor of Pocketnow. You all know that by now, but what you don’t know about me is a lot. I’ll try to keep it short and interesting, and, hopefully, at the end of this Curriculum Vitae, you’ll know me better just a little bit.

The early days

It all started back in September 30, 1980, in a town called Oradea, north-western Romania, just a stone-throw away from the Hungarian border. Actually, it all started around either 1979′s Christmas or New Year’s Eve, if my calculations are right, but that’s a different topic.

I’m better than y’all!

Being born in 1980 and growing up in the 80s and 90s is probably what I would have asked for if things weren’t this way. VCRs, Disco music, 80s rock and part of the Western culture broke through the Iron Curtain, so when communism fell in Romania in 1989, even though I was still 9, the first bricks of my foundation were laid. Family, society, and the heavy import of everything western did the rest.

<img class="size-full wp-image-363779 prettyPhoto " alt="2013 05 24 16 44 3 Get to know Pocketnow’s Anton D.
Absorbing the western culture

I don’t really have memories from kindergarden through middle-school, except one thing that made me a “handy-man”. I was born into a family with heavy tradition in modeling, from airplanes, to rockets, boats, and cars. This wasn’t a hobby; both my father and my grandfather (who was actually a pioneer of this discipline in the region) were already established and recognized sportsmen. Needless to say that by the time I turned 5 I was flying airplane models (at first, whether I liked it or not) and driving R/C race-cars. Fast-forward a lot and I find great pleasure in looking at my trophy collection.

<img class="size-full wp-image-363781 prettyPhoto " alt="2013 05 24 16 44 2 copy Get to know Pocketnow’s Anton D.
I wish I could post all my pictures with all my boats, cars, airplanes, rockets, etc.

My high-school concentration was philology and I was lucky (or unlucky, depending on which stage of my life you ask me) to be one of the four guys in a class of 30 pupils. Graduated in 1999, the exact same year that I started my four-year journey in law-school at the University of Oradea (needless to say the male-female count ratio never changed).

Law-school graduation

After four years of combining all the things a young man at my age could have done (some stupid, some irrational, but definitely all in the name of fun) with a truck’s worth of books, treaties, laws, practices, and alike, I graduated in 2003, getting my law degree.

Work

I didn’t waste too much time between my studies and work, even though I planned to. The opportunity has presented itself, out of nowhere, to work for a major sports brand as a Country Sales Manager. I didn’t know anything about sales, or management, but I have accumulated an enormous baggage of psychology, which combined with the art of negotiation, and my knowledge of commercial law, made me think of it as a piece of cake (being young, and feeling on top of the world, at 25, also helped). Needless to say I was wrong!

I was never the one to walk away when things got tough so I sucked it up and spent two extraordinary years absorbing everything life had to teach me, like a sponge. 2005 was the year I switched workplaces, becoming a legal counselor for a small, but successful, advertising and marketing production and services firm. While applying my knowledge in law, my sponge-like brain continued to absorb everything, this time adding advertising and marketing principles and practices.

Through those years, from 2005 to 2007 to be more specific, I was also studying, in addition to work. The amount of books and treaties increased, fun-time decreased, and in 2007 I got my Master’s degree in Criminal Law.

Back at work, I quickly realized that I wanted more, so in 2006 I started working as Regional Foreign Sales Manager for a holding. Main activity was food production, and I had to sell it (a lot of it).

Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, and San Marino (I’m sure I left out some) are all countries to where I traveled a lot. Business meetings and trade shows were all fun and work, but meeting people, and seeing places, was definitely something I would have wished for if it never happened. Every country I travelled to had at least 3, sometimes up to 7 or 8, clients I was responsible for, and they were scattered all over, from the capital cities to the country side.

Fun fact: I drove an average of 7,439 km (4,622 miles) per month.

The XDA Developers days

Traveling a lot, exclusively by car, I quickly realized that spreading out the map on the dash is not always a good idea. I didn’t wait for the company to equip me with a GPS so at the end of 2006 I got my own PDA, an ASUS MyPal A636, running Windows Mobile 5.0 for PocketPCs. That’s where it all began. Of course, two weeks after I got it, the company bought one too.

Every evening I would just go through the menus and tinker with the settings, and I soon found out about XDA Developers, a place to do stuff. Towards the beginning of 2007 I met a foreign official who, after talking on the phone, took the stylus and made a note. I busted through the bodyguards and I just had to ask him about what became my first smartphone: the HTC P3600, aka the Trinity.

My first smartphone. I loved it sooo much!

There was no stopping now. From 2007 to 2008 I quickly became a power-user, then a (rather popular, according to the standards of those days) ROM chef, and an XDA Developer Moderator (currently Retired Senior Moderator). Until one day I received a Private Message from someone (was kind of easy to spot between all the others asking for help, support, congratulating, bitching, etc.) asking me a very interesting question: “We have this website called Pocketnow.com and I’ve noticed you around here. How would you like to write some articles and earn some money while doing it?“.

That’s me

The Pocketnow days

August 19, 2008, was the date I published my first ever article on Pocketnow. I was Contributing Editor writing initially one, then later on two pieces per day, about cool stuff from XDA Developers. Five years and more than 5,500 posts later I can’t really seem to remember when exactly was it that I became Senior Editor. On October 1, 2010, I came on-board full time, as I resigned from the Regional Foreign Sales Manager position I held (and after five years of doing it, I became the one cashing in the biggest amounts. Ever!).

I remember than Brandon and I have talked, at length, about covering tablets. We were actually considering a sister-site dedicated to all things tablets where I would assemble a team of Editors under my Editor-in-Chief-ship, to address that segment of our potential future audience (Michael can tell you how everything felt on the other side). We then, of course, agreed that branching Pocketnow out to covering tablets was the best solution, and, when the site and our ME (Evan Blass) have parted ways at the beginning of 2012, I was offered the Managing Editor position.

I was excited to accept, not only because it is the second highest-ranking position in any journalistic structure, but, because over the years, I became good at managing people and situations, as well negotiating myself, or everyone else into, or out of anything. I also love a good challenge!

Anton D. Nagy as Managing Editor

<img class="size-full wp-image-363808 prettyPhoto " alt="MWC Get to know Pocketnow’s Anton D.
At Mobile World Congress 2013

Many people are asking me all the time: what does the Managing Editor do? It’s just a fancy title! What does Anton D. Nagy do on Pocketnow aside from covering news, shows, the occasional reviews, podcasts and the Live show?

To be honest, these are only the visible things of my work, and they represent around a quarter of what I do. So what is it that I do, then? I get things done! I plan, I organize, I manage. They call me “The Schemer” for a reason!

Without going into too many details, I am responsible for the front page, at any point. I’m co-ordinating the Editorial team and planning content. What goes up, when, who posts it, why, who reviews, what, how, and so on. We have a very good system in place which works exceptionally. It is my job to keep the wheels turning.

I am also responsible for assisting the Editorial team with everything they might need, let it be imagery or mock-ups, in addition to creating the design for our YouTube and Twitter pages.

I keep track of analytics, traffic data, content analysis from the past, reports, all in order to improve, based on the data I gather.

I also organize our European show (MWC and IFA) and special event coverages, meaning everything from cost estimation to the expense account (including train or plane tickets, accommodation, fuel, highway tolls, local transportation, food, logistics, registrations, event planning, coverage planning, and so much more).

I’m hiring and training people, making sure that they’re familiar with our system, back-end to front-page.

There’s also everything else that needs to be done, planned or ad-hoc, in addition to some other things I can’t talk about (mostly logistics).

Epilogue

It’s difficult to concentrate almost 33 years of life in a 1,500-word piece. Nonetheless, I tried to select they key points and events above so that you can not only get to know me a little bit better, but also to have a grasp of who I am, where I come from, what I do, and what I stand for.

I’ve always tried to make the best out of every situation in life; I sure know I’ve always lived the day. And I also know that I’ve never walked away when things got tough. I love my life and I’m happy to be part of an exceptional team, like the one we have here at Pocketnow. I love challenges, and I love solving apparently unsolvable problems.

I always say though: “don’t ever regret the things you do or say. If you have to regret something, regret the things you never did and said”.

…and, at the end, I’ll leave you one of my favorite songs. It’s about me, you, and everyone else on this Planet. Let the lyrics talk!

You can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+. We can talk more there, and, of course, in the comments below.

A tiny piece of plastic won’t excite too many people, except when it ingeniously solves two problems in one. The Smarter Stand for iPhone holds an iPhone, or iPod Touch, user’s earbuds in a tangle-free way while also propping up the iPhone/iPod Touch for comfortable viewing of videos, perfect at work on a desk or on an airplane tray.

The Smarter Stand started out as a Kickstarter project, but now everyone can buy one for just $ 12.99.

This smart little accessory solves two problems. First, it does what the name suggests. It stands up an iPhone at a comfortable viewing angle for watching videos or making a video call with Facetime or Skype. Slide the iPhone earbud cable into the groove on one end of the stand and pull it so that the stereo jack slides back into the Smarter Stand.

The Smarter Stand works with the iPhone or iPod Touch in a thick case or naked. We suspect that only cases like those from Otterbox or Lifeproof might keep the device from working.

Plug the jack into the iPhone and the tab that sticks out the side of the Smarter Stand holds the phone while the other end of the Smarter Stand acts like a pari of legs.

Could you stare at the Samsung Galaxy S4 for 60 minutes straight with motorcycles whizzing by your head, couples arguing in your ear, hot dog vendors tossing sausages in you face, remote control cars ramming into your feet, and a crowd reacting to your every move? Swisscom and Samsung ran a promotion in Zurich Main Station on May 16 that included all of the above. They asked contestants to stand on a platform and stare into a Galaxy S4, since it can track your eyes and all. Should you last for 60 minutes, you would have walked away with a brand new GS4.

I want in. Bring your game to Portland, Samsung.
