Apple & Press Association Team Up To Publish Weekly App Charts
Today sees the inaugural edition of a a new weekly chart rundown of the most popular apps for both iPhone and iPad, born out of a new partnership between Apple and the Press Association.
Just as the US App Store began to publish weekly charts back in September, users in the UK can find out which apps are flying off the virtual shelves over the previous seven days basis. Of course, it’s always possible to find out what’s hot over the space of a few hours by visiting the App Store itself, but the introduction of a weekly chart only serves to illustrate the growth of the app industry as well as insider interest in development.
At the moment, sales figures are not included in each edition of the chart and this is unlikely to change, however, that doesn’t take away from the potential impact of recording what’s moving and shaking in the App Store.
The charts are divided into four categories; paid and free apps for iPhone and paid and free apps for iPad and, being compiled by Apple, will only chart sales for iOS devices. It is thought that such a venture is an attempt by Apple to establish its App Store as the leading platform for app purchases, ahead of similar offerings for Blackberry and Android
